WOMEN AND HOUSING
Our joint project with Women for Women Together Against Violence (NANE) raises awareness that women are particularly affected by housing poverty and need targeted housing solutions. The main reasons for this are that
-
women are systematically worse off in the labor market;
-
women are responsible for a large share of care and domestic work, which also undermines their participation in the formal labor market;
-
women are generally in a worse economic position and therefore often vulnerable to their male partners in terms of housing.
In this way, the issue of women's housing poverty is also closely linked to intimate partner violence.
Our project consisted of two main parts. First, we produced a research and summary publication on the above-mentioned problems and possible interventions in Hungary. Second, we developed a targeted local policy brief for three municipalities, proposing a realistic local program to combat female housing poverty.
